Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: porge v., -er suffix1.
Etymology: < porge v. + -er suffix1.As an occupational term likely to occur in official records, it is not surprising that the agent noun porger is attested earlier than the verb porge . The form purgadór in quot. 1773 is perhaps Jewish Portuguese (compare Judaeo-Spanish pulgador) but appears not to be otherwise attested.
Judaism.
Chiefly in Jewish usage in the British Isles: a person whose occupation is to porge meat.
