Etymology: < the name of José de la Cruz Porfirio Díaz (1830–1915), President of Mexico (1876–80 and 1884–1911) + -an suffix, perhaps after Spanish porfiriano (1911).
Of, relating to, or designating Porfirio Díaz, his government, or the period of his presidency in Mexico (1876–80, 1884–1911).
