Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin polycholia.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin polycholia ( J. C. Reil Dissertatio inauguralis medica de polycholia (1782)) < poly- poly- comb. form + -cholia (in melancholia melancholy n.1). Compare French polycholie (1818 or earlier).
Medicine. Now rare or disused.
Increased production or flow of bile.
