Etymology: < Swedish polyargit (L. F. Svanberg 1840, in Förh. Skand. Naturforsk. 2 334) < poly- poly- comb. form + ancient Greek ἀργός shining, sparkling (see argil n.) + Swedish -it -ite suffix¹. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (pǫliˌā·ɹdʒəit) /pɒlɪˈɑːdʒaɪt/.

Mineralogy. Obsolete.

A rose-coloured mineral of the pinite group, consisting of an aluminosilicate of calcium and potassium.
