1926 P. M. Shand Bk. Wine vi. 185 In cases where the wine is a selected one—that is, made from grapes carefully chosen for their over-ripeness—the inscription should terminate with the word Auslese, Goldbeerenauslese, Beerenauslese...[etc.].
1951 R. Postgate Plain Man's Guide to Wine vi. 98 Beerenauslese means that the grapes for the wine were specially selected.
1963 Times 8 Feb. 12/5 Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen. These latter terms mean, respectively, wines made from selected over-ripe single grapes and those made from over-ripe single grapes which are in effect sun-dried raisins, in a state of pourriture noble.
1980 M. Broadbent Great Vintage Wine Bk. 301/1 Beerenauslese wines are always sweet, like Sauternes.
