Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek πολεμιστής.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πολεμιστής warrior < πολεμίζειν to wage war, fight (see polemize v.) + -τής, suffix forming agent nouns. Compare French polémiste (1845), Italian polemista (1862).
