Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: politic n., -aster suffix.
Etymology: < politic n. (see sense 2b at that entry) + -aster suffix, perhaps after Italian politicastro (a1610). Compare Spanish politicastro (1821 or earlier).
derogatory. Now literary and archaic.
An inadequate or contemptible politician.
