Etymology: < poikilo- comb. form + -blast comb. form. In sense 1 after German Poikiloblast (P. Ehrlich 1880, in Berliner klinische Wochenschrift 17 405/1). With sense 2 compare earlier poikiloblastic adj.
1. Medicine. An erythroblast of irregular shape; an immature poikilocyte. Now rare.
