A. Dillon's reference to the source cited in quot. ?a1549 (see quot. 1888). The forms polder mitton, polder mitten show alteration of the second element after mitten n.

1888 H. A. Dillon in Archaeologia 51 258 [Referring to quot. ?a1549] There are..vambraces with ‘polder mittons’. Here we have the espaulle de mouton of C^te de Belleval's MS. of 1446. They were for the right arm, and protected the bend of the arm.

1909 C. Ffoulkes Armour & Weapons iv. 76 The Poldermitton—so called from its likeness to the ‘epaule de mouton’, and worn over the bend of the right arm.
