Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin polyaemia.
Etymology: < scientific Latin polyaemia (1716 or earlier) < ancient Greek πολυαιμία fullness of blood < πολυ- poly- comb. form + -αιμία (see -aemia suffix). Compare later polyhaemia n.
Medicine. Now rare.
An abnormally large volume of blood in the body.
