Etymology: < poe- (in scientific Latin Narcissus poeticus; < Narcissus narcissus n. + poeticus , specific epithet (see poetic adj.); compare poet's narcissus n. at poet n. Compounds 3) + taz- - (in Narcissus tazetta; < Narcissus narcissus n. + tazetta tazetta n.).
In full poetaz daffodil, poetaz narcissus. Any of a group of narcissus hybrids produced by crossing Narcissus poeticus and N. tazetta, bearing two or more fragrant white or yellow flowers with a short corona. Frequently attributive.

1906 Gardeners' Chron. 17 Mar. 169/3 Narcissus ‘Poetaz’.—This name applies to a race derived by crossing N. poeticus and N. Tazetta.
1913 Daffodil Year-bk. 51 These Poetaz Daffodils are now well to the front, and are really good decorative plants.
1934 E. A. Bowles Handbk. Narcissus xvi. 176 The present-day race classed as Poetaz varieties owes its origin to the Dutch firm of Messrs. R. Van der Schoot. In 1885 large stocks of Tazetta varieties were growing in their Nursery alongside beds of N. poeticus ornatus, and the experiment of crossing them was decided upon.
