Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Plasson.
Etymology: < German Plasson (Haeckel 1874 in an earlier edition of the source translated in quot. 1879 at main sense) < ancient Greek πλάσσον , neuter of πλάσσων , present participle of πλάσσειν to mould, to form (see plastic n.); compare -on suffix1. N.E.D.(1907) gives only the pronunciation (plæ·sǫ̆n) /ˈplæsən/.
Biology. rare. Now historical.
Haeckel's term for: a homogeneous mass of undifferentiated anucleate protoplasm, hypothesized as the simplest or most primitive form of living matter.

Plasson] or archiplasm—that is to say, a plasma-compound that was not yet differentiated into outer cytoplasm and inner caryoplasm.
