Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French plongée.
Etymology: < French plongée upper slope of a parapet (1704), use as noun of the past participle of plonger plunge v., perhaps influenced in form by plunge n. (compare slightly later sense 7 at that entry). N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (plǫndʒ) /plɒndʒ/.
Fortification. Obsolete. rare.
