Etymology: < Anglo-Norman plevisable (c1290 or earlier: see quot. below; compare Middle French (Lorraine) plevissable (1382)) < pleviss- , extended stem of plevir to warrant (see pledge n.) + -able -able suffix. Compare earlier replevisable adj.For the Anglo-Norman word compare:c1290 Britton (1865) I. i. xxii. §3. 87 Qi..ount lessé les nent plevisables prisouns par meynprise, et les plevisables detenuz. [tr. Have let to mainprise prisoners who were not bailable, and have detained others who were bailable.]
