Compare scientific Latin Plectropterinae, subfamily name (1849 or earlier). N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (plektrǫ·ptərəin) /plɛkˈtrɒptəraɪn/.

Ornithology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

Of or relating to the African genus Plectropterus (family Anatidae), containing only the spur-winged goose, P. gambensis, which has a sharp, bony spur on the front margin of the wing.
