Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin plēbēius , -ity suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin plēbēius (see plebeian n. and adj.) + -ity suffix, after e.g. nobility n. Compare earlier plebs n. With sense 2 compare classical Latin plēbitās rank or status of a plebeian, Portuguese plebeidade (a1649), and also earlier plebeiance n.
