1961 A. S. MacNalty Brit. Med. Dict. 184/1 Bejel, a non-venereal form of syphilis which is endemic among the Arabs (particularly the children) of the valleys along the Middle Euphrates. The infecting organism is morphologically indistinguishable from Treponema pallidum.
