Etymology: Probably < Middle French plaudir or its etymon classical Latin plaudere plaud v. + -able suffix. Compare earlier plausible adj. and later plaud v. Perhaps compare also earlier laudable adj.
Obsolete. rare.
Deserving applause or a favourable reception.
