Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin accidentialis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin accidentialis non-essential (1566 or earlier) < accidentia (see accidence n.1) + classical Latin -ālis -al suffix1. Compare earlier accidental adj., and also essential adj.Some recent examples may simply show typographical errors for accidental adj.
Now rare.
