Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Plerom.
Etymology: < German Plerom (1873 in the source translated in quot. 1875 at main sense; earlier as †Pleroma (J. Hanstein 1868, in Abhandl. der Naturwissensch. als Gratulationsschr. der Niederrhein. Ges. f. Natur- u. Heilkunde 120)) < ancient Greek πλήρωμα a thing which fills (see pleroma n.): compare -ome comb. form.In plerome-cylinder at Compounds after German Pleromstrang (1874 in the passage translated in quot. 18821 at Compounds).
Botany.
The innermost layer of an apical meristem, which gives rise to the central vascular tissue and pith.
