Etymology: < ancient Greek πλήρης full (see plereme n.) + -ιον, suffix forming nouns (compare -y suffix4). Compare quot. 1978 at main sense.
Astronomy.
A supernova remnant of a relatively short-lived type, characterized by a flat radio spectrum and by radio emission which is not confined to an outer shell but originates in all parts of the remnant's volume.
