Etymology: < German Plagionit (G. Rose 1833, in Ann. der Physik u. Chemie 28 421) < ancient Greek πλάγιος oblique (see plagio- comb. form) + -n- , connective element (perhaps representing the final letter of the neuter form πλάγιον ) + German -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A rare blackish grey mineral occurring as thick, tabular crystals of metallic appearance and consisting of a monoclinic sulphide of lead and antimony, Pb₅Sb₈S₁₇.
