Etymology: Partly < placard v. + -er suffix1, and partly < placard n. + -er suffix1. Compare French placardeur (1789). Compare placard bearer n. at placard n. Compounds 2. N.E.D. (1907) also gives the pronunciation (plăkā·ɹdəɹ, ) /pləˈkɑːdə(r)/.
