Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin plācābilitās.
Etymology: < classical Latin plācābilitās readiness to forgive < plācābilis placable adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Middle French placabilité (1577; French placabilité), Spanish placabilidad (a1540 or earlier), Portuguese placabilidade (a1572). N.E.D. (1907) also gives the pronunciation (plēikăbi·lĭti) /pleɪkəˈbɪlɪtɪ/.
