Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Pinguit.
Etymology: < German Pinguit (A. Breithaupt 1829, in Jrnl. f. Chem. u. Physik 55 303) < classical Latin pinguis fat (see pinguid adj.) + German -it -ite suffix1.
Mineralogy. Now rare.
An oil-green mineral with a waxy consistency that is probably a variety of nontronite (chloropal).
