Etymology: < plastic adj. + -izer suffix. Compare earlier plastifier n., also plasticizing adj., and slightly later plasticize v.
Any substance which when added to another makes it (more) plastic or mouldable; spec. one (usually a solvent) added to a synthetic resin to produce or promote plasticity and flexibility, and to reduce brittleness.
