Etymology: Originally < plastic adj. + -ize suffix, after plasticizer n. In sense 2 < plastic n. + -ize suffix. Compare earlier plastify v., plasticizing adj.
1. transitive. To make plastic or mouldable; to produce or promote plasticity in (a substance), esp. by treatment with a plasticizer or by a process of plastication.
