Etymology: Probably partly < Anglo-Norman pestrine, pistrine bakehouse (14th cent. or earlier; compare French pistrine grinding-mill (1611 in an apparently isolated attestation with reference to Roman antiquity)) or its etymon classical Latin pistrīna bakery, mill ( < pistor baker (see pistor n.) + -īna -ine suffix⁴), and partly < classical Latin pistrīnum bakery, mill < pistor + -īnum -ine suffix⁴. Compare Italian pistrino mill, oven (a1348).

Obsolete. rare.
