Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pince-nez.
Etymology: < French pince-nez (1841) < pincer (see pinch v.) + nez nose (see Nez Perce n.).
A pair of spectacles kept in position by a spring which clips the nose, rather than by earpieces. Cf. nose glasses n. at nose n. Compounds 2.
