Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Pintsch.
Etymology: < the name of Julius Pintsch AG , a German firm founded by Carl Friedrich Julius Pintsch (1815–84) and continued by his sons Oskar Ernst Julius Pintsch (1844–1912) and Richard Pintsch (1840–1919), which developed this process and produced these devices.
Now historical.
Used attributively and in the genitive with reference to an oil-gas obtained from shale oil or similar fractions of petroleum which was formerly widely used for lighting railway carriages, lighthouses, buoys, etc.
