Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: pleni- comb. form, Latin cornu.
Etymology: < pleni- comb. form + classical Latin cornu horn (see cornu n.), after scientific Latin Plenicornia, former tribe name ( P. A. Latreille Familles naturelles du règne animal (1825) 63; compare also French Plénicornes, plural, in the same source). With use as adjective compare French plénicorne, adjective (1869 in Littré). N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (plī·nikǭɹn, ple·ni-) /ˈpliːnɪkɔːn/ /ˈplɛnɪ-/.
