Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: phyllo- comb. form, -ome comb. form.
Etymology: < phyllo- comb. form + -ome comb. form. Compare Hellenistic Greek ϕύλλωμα foliage. In sense 2 after German Phyllom (1868 in the passage translated in quot. 1875 at sense 2).In sense 1, R. G. Mayne gives a Latin form phylloma (see quot. 1858 at sense 1).
Botany.
1. The parts of an embryo plant which develop into the leaves, considered collectively. Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
