Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: phyllo- comb. form, -genous comb. form.
Etymology: < phyllo- comb. form + -genous comb. form. With sense 2 compare earlier phyllogen n. at phyllo- comb. form .R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1858 at sense 1) also gives a Latin form phyllogenus.
Botany.
1. Of a fungus: growing upon leaves. Now rare.
