Fresh-water Polyzoa (1856) 10; < Hellenistic Greek ϕυλακτός (see phylactocarp n.) + ancient Greek λαιμός throat (see megaleme n.) + scientific Latin -ata , as if derived from an ancient Greek noun ending in -ματ- , -μα : see -oma comb. form) + -ous suffix.

Zoology.

Of or relating to the class Phylactolaemata of freshwater bryozoans, characterized by the presence of an epistome overhanging the mouth.
