Etymology: < scientific Latin Piroplasma piroplasma n.; compare -plasm comb. form.
Microbiology and Veterinary Medicine.
A protozoan of the sporozoan class Piroplasmea, which comprises species that are parasitic in red blood cells (some are important pathogens of domestic animals) and are transmitted by ticks.
