Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pignoratif.
Etymology: < French pignoratif (1567 in Middle French) < pignorer ( < classical Latin pignerāre pignorate v.) + -atif -ative suffix. Compare post-classical Latin pignorativus, adjective and noun (a1380 and 1483 respectively in British sources).
Now rare.
Of or relating to pignoration; pledging, pawning.
