Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: photo- comb. form, -opia comb. form.
Etymology: < photo- comb. form + -opia comb. form; apparently coined by J. H. Parsons (see quot. 1915).
Physiology. Now rare.
Vision in conditions of bright light; light-adapted vision; photopic vision. Cf. scotopia n.

1915 J. H. Parsons Introd. Study Colour Vision ii. 17 If the eye has been exposed to bright light it is said to be light-adapted. I shall speak of vision under these circumstances as photopia, and the light-adapted eye as a photopic eye.
