Origin: A borrowing from Dutch. Etymon: Dutch piet-myn-vrouw.
Etymology: < South African Dutch piet-myn-vrouw (Afrikaans piet-my-vrou ), literally ‘Pete my wife’ < Piet Pete (shortened < Pieter Peter n.) + myn my (see mine pron.) + vrouw wife (see vrouw n.), imitative of the bird's call.
