1847 H. Smith tr. M. J. Schleiden (title) Contributions to phytogenesis [Ger. Phytogenesis].
1851 Abstr. Papers Royal Soc. 1843–50 5 870 Professor Schleiden..admits the division of cells by the separation of the nitrogenous lining of Mohl's ‘primordial utricle’, into two halves, between which a cellulose membrane is secreted. These views are very different from those propounded in his earlier treatise on Phytogenesis.
1858 R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. (1860) Phytogenesis, term by Dupetit-Thouars for germination..phytogenesy.
1889 Bot. Gaz. 14 238 In 1838, the eccentric Schleiden published his Contributions to Phytogenesis in which he states substantially that cells of plants can be formed only in a fluid containing, as chief ingredients, sugar and mucus (schleim). By this latter term he designated the nitrogenous matters taken collectively.
1922 Sci. Monthly Mar. 276 Schleiden..failed to discover how new cells originate, though this was the chief aim of his classic paper on phytogenesis.
