1813 G. Brunnmark tr. J. J. Berzelius View Animal Chem. 65 Thenard..shewed that the bile contained..a peculiar bitter-sweet matter, in the form of an extract, to which, from its taste, he gave the name picromel.

1850 G. Law tr. J. B. Boussingault Rural Econ. 253 Picromel, discovered in the bile of the ox by M. Thenard, is colorless, and of the consistency of sirup.

1880 J. W. Legg On Bile 2 Thenard..obtained a body which he named picromel from its taste.
