Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) from a proper name. Etymons: French picon; proper name Picon.
Etymology: Either < French picon (1873 or earlier in Amer Picon Amer Picon n.), or < the name of Gaetan Picon, co-founder of the company Picon et Cie (the drink's French producers), who is believed to have created the drink in 1837. Compare Amer Picon n.
A proprietary name for: an aperitif made with wine, brandy, orange peel, quinine, and herbs; a drink of this. Cf. Amer Picon n.
