单词 phosphatase
释义

phosphatasen.

Brit. /ˈfɒsfəteɪz/, U.S. /ˈfɑsfəˌteɪz/, /ˈfɑsfəˌteɪs/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: phosphate n., -ase suffix.
Etymology: < phosphate n. + -ase suffix. Compare German Phosphatase (1930 or earlier; earlier as Phosphatese: see below).H. Euler coined German Phosphatese in Zeitschr. f. physiol. Chem. 77 (1911) 14, having proposed that the ending -ase be restricted to enzymes which decompose substrates, and -ese be used for enzymes which synthesize. Compare the following earlier use of phosphatese in English:1911 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. 100 i. 1051 There is no evidence that the enzyme which synthesises carbohydrate phosphoric acid esters has any splitting action. The term phosphatese is suggested.
Biochemistry.
Any of a group of enzymes which bring about the synthesis or hydrolysis of esters of phosphoric acid, usually in a specified (acid or alkaline) environment.

1973 B. J. Williams Evol. & Human Origins iv. 67/1 Red cell acid phosphatase provides a good illustration of the fact that alleles at a single locus can produce a ‘continuous’ trait in the manner described.
2000 Sci. Amer. June 60/2 Kinases and phosphatases control most activities in cells. If one kinase activates a protein, some phosphatase will be charged with inactivating that protein.

1933 H. D. Kay & W. R. Graham in Jrnl. Dairy Res. 5 70 If..the cream was pasteurised, its phosphatase content was completely or almost completely destroyed. This suggested to us the possibility that the phosphatase test might also be used for determining whether a given sample of butter had been made from fresh or from pasteurised cream.
1960 H. F. Judkins & H. A. Keener Milk Production & Processing xiv. 256 The phosphatase test is very sensitive and will show very small variations in the time and temperature of pasteurization.
2001 Jrnl. Dairy Sci. 84 1959 The objective of this study was to determine the effects of dissolved CO2 in milk on the performance of four important routine testing methods: antibiotic residue test, freezing point test, infrared milk component analysis, and alkaline phosphatase test.
