In Greek the more common combining form of this word is ϕωτο- photo- comb. form.Found in a small number of English formations from the end of the 18th cent., apparently almost exclusively chemical terms in the works of Humphrey Davy. Combining with second elements ultimately of Greek or Latin origin.
