Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin phoronomica.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin phoronomica (1672 in the passage translated in quot. 1733), use as noun of neuter plural of phoronomicus < ancient Greek ϕορά motion (see phorid adj. and n.) + classical Latin -nomicus (in e.g. astronomicus astronomic adj.): see -ic suffix 2. Compare later phoronomic adj., phoronomy n.
The study of pure motion, kinematics; = phoronomy n.
