Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin accersere, arcessere.
Etymology: < classical Latin accersere (also arcessere) to summon, of uncertain origin. Compare accersit v.Both forms of the Latin verb are widely attested in manuscripts; the form arcessere is recorded in an inscription. If the form arcessere is earlier, it may represent a desiderative formation.
Obsolete. rare.
