Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps compare pick n.1 3e, although this is apparently first attested later.
Caribbean. Somewhat depreciative.
Of a black person's hair: sparse and tightly coiled in little balls, so that much scalp is visible; (frequently also) untidy, straggly. (Frequently reduplicated.) picky head n. (also picky-picky head) a person, esp. a woman, with hair of this type; (also) the hair itself.
