Etymology: < ancient Greek ϕιλόζῳος loving animals ( < ϕιλο- philo- comb. form + ζῷον animal: see zoon n.) + -ic suffix, after philanthropic adj. Compare earlier philozoonist n. and slightly later philozoist n.
Loving animals; kind to animals.
