Etymology: < German phäochrom (H. Poll in O. Hertwig Handb. d. vergleichenden u. experimentellen Entwickelungslehre d. Wirbeltiere (1906) III. 444) < ancient Greek ϕαιός (glossed by Poll as braun brown: see phaeism n.) + German -chrom -chrome comb. form.
Histology. Now rare or disused.
