Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin perviat-, perviare.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin perviat-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of perviare (4th cent.; < classical Latin per- per- prefix + viāre to travel < via way: see via n.). Compare classical Latin pervius (see pervious adj.), and also earlier pervious adj.
Obsolete. rare.
transitive. To penetrate, perforate.
