Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French Philistien.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman Philistien, Filistien (late 13th cent.), alteration (with suffix substitution: compare -ien -ian suffix) of Old French Philistin Philistine n. N.E.D. (1906) cites post-classical (‘medieval’) Latin Philistianus but this form has not been traced.
Now archaic and rare.
